The Expansion of Mobile Healthcare in Emerging Markets using HeMoClo by Allison Z. and Arianna G.

Business

Summary

Access to adequate healthcare is a basic human necessity in the 21st century. Unfortunately, many impoverished places in the world, including areas in rural India, still lack the benefits of basic health services. As part of our research we are developing methods to increase the expansion of mobile health systems using HeMoClo by optimizing communications between healthcare providers and patients in rural areas....The top leading causes of death in India are cardiovascular diseases followed by diabetes, strokes, diarrhoeal diseases, birth complications, and tuberculosis. The deaths of children under five years old are due 83% of the time to infectious, neonatal or nutritional problems. Almost 100% of Indian citizens have an improved source of water. However, a mere 40% of Indian citizens have adopted improved sanitation conditions....The current healthcare system in India relies on a mere 1% GDP per year which amounts to roughly $215 per capita on health spending in comparison to the 8.3% GDP spent by the United States on health care...On the business side of HeMoClo, we hope to deploy a long-term, sustainable business model that will create a shorter transition period (less than three years) for rural residents to become self-supporting customers of HeMoClo. We plan to achieve this goal by first improving the standard of living by focusing on five basic necessities: livelihood, health, education, water, and sanitation.....We will also address our research question from a technological standpoint. HeMoClo technology will be advanced by improving the computer human interface in order to allow for more effective communication....

Regulatory Challenges in the Food Industry: Impact on Small Businesses

Small businesses have a vital role in fostering entrepreneurial growth and the creation of new jobs in numerous business industries. Regulations ensure consumer protection, safety, environmental conservation, and market stability. However, they can also create delays in business operations, limitations on capital access, and increased costs for small businesses. This investigation delves into and analyzes small food businesses' regulatory challenges, exploring regulatory impact on costs, efficiency, and business growth in Santa Clara County. The goals include identifying regulatory requirements, evaluating their impact, and proposing recommendations for a more supportive framework. The research aims to contribute valuable insights to the field, benefitting both businesses and policymakers by proposing potential reforms that promote innovation, growth, and regulatory compliance in the food industry. The study's findings aim to empower small businesses, guide policymakers, and enhance community understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the food industry.

How a Circular-Business Model in the Eyewear Industry Impacts Individuals’ Ability to Lower Their Environmental Footprint

Despite most Americans wanting more done to stop climate change, psychological barriers often prevent individuals from taking climate action, leading environmental experts to urge for more systematic climate solutions (Kretz, 2012). Experts have theorized systematic business models; however, more data is required on how customers and businesses feel about implementing these practices and how they can help individuals lower their greenhouse gas emissions. This project introduces a circular business model into the eyewear industry and compares individual eyewear disposal habits before and after implementing the program. Through an eyewear donation program and a free vision clinic, this project aims to give used eyewear a new life while providing free eyewear to low-income individuals.

This research project will collect qualitative data from indie and corporate developers via a survey. Appropriate data analysis of collected data will reveal the exact differences between the developers' processes to discover ways to capitalize on available resources, effectively optimizing the process.

Impact of Multinational Corporations on Revenue and Sustainability of Businesses in Non-Globalized Countries

There is a problem with the longevity of small businesses following increases in the number and size of multinational corporations. Multinational corporations or “MNCS” often move into a country and significantly decrease prices to acquire customers. They can afford to do this due to their high level of cash flow from other places, whereas small businesses often can't afford to drop prices. After acquiring customers, they often then increase the prices again leaving the consumers with no option but to buy their overpriced goods. This study will use interviews, surveys, and financial statements of revenue, profit, and customer-base sizes for companies to shed light on the hardships and importance of small businesses and the actions we can take to help them.

Exploring Alternative Methods and Strategies for Commercial Fishing Concerning Environmental Health and Industry Benefit

Modern commercial fishing consists of industrialized processes and techniques that lead to overfishing of populations and destroying habitats at an increasing rate. Government bodies provide subsidies that prop up the industry in ways that are not economically or environmentally sustainable. The project explores ways in which we can adjust fishing techniques, fishery management strategies, and government policy to benefit both the environment and the economy of the fishing industry.

Green Marketing vs Traditional Marketing Strategies and their Compared Effectiveness in Increasing Business Profits

Customers often link green marketing with terms such as recyclable, refillable, ozone friendly, and environmentally friendly, but the core of green marketing goes much deeper than that. With more and more brands and corporations catering to consumers' interest and want for clean and environmentally friendly goods, there are no measurements on whether these efforts to market green actually increase business profits and acquire customers. This project will focus on recent marketing profit reports from large corporations who employ green marketing strategies and compare them to previous and parallel data to determine the relationship between green and traditional marketing strategies and their compared effectiveness.

COVID-19's Impact on Working Mothers

For most people, access to a steady income through employment is a vital part of their independence and autonomy. Unfortunately, the Coronavirus pandemic has caused thousands of mothers to lose their opportunity to support themselves and their families. New studies show that women, especially mothers, are experiencing unemployment (voluntary and involuntary) at rates much higher than their male counterparts. Due to abnormal pandemic stressors, family structures and the division of labor have been completely rearranged for many families. Closed schools in particular have increased the demand for childcare, which has forced many mothers to quit to care for their young children. The disruption of the careers of working mother’s will have long lasting impacts on not only individuals, but the gendered aspect of the economy. The issue of mother’s unemployment has persisted even with the improvement of the pandemic, and it has become clear that without action, it could have a long lasting impact on gender equity in the United States.

This research project aimed to better recognize website principles & options and understand the opinions of business owners in regards to e-commerce. The data collected through interviews was synthesized to better understand the role of websites in small businesses and how they can be changed to maximize customers.
